Oslo pop group Das Body shared their offbeat, synth-streaked single "Graceland" in August. With its brooding beats and wavering vocals, it was a strange but alluring cut that unexpectedly kept me in a replay loop. Since then, the band released their self-titled debut EP, and today, are sharing the accompanying visual for "Graceland" on The FADER.
An equally, and delightfully, strange experience to watch, the video is a darkly chic dance party for one. Lead singer Ellie Linden is bathed in dramatic lighting, and I get neo-noir, Twin Peaks vibes. If you're still looking for a fall-to-winter mood board, take notes — the red vinyl coat and gloss shadow look is definitely going on mine.
"To me 'Graceland' is more of a feeling than a song," Linden writes of the song via email. "Playing it live feels like starring in a neo-noir movie with Elvis. 'Graceland' is like a battle between the neverending drumbeat and the unsettling vocals, held together by some simple chords. It was an intense journey to write, it's an intense journey to play and it's probably an intense listen."
