MJ Cole and Kojey Radical’s “Soak It Up” is an exploration of grief
Watch the heartbreaking yet hopeful new visual.
London's Kojey Radical finds himself in the middle of a family mourning the loss of a son in the intimate and beautiful video for his MJ Cole collaboration, "Soak It Up." The video, premiering above, sees Kojey sitting in the living room of a small London home as the pain embeds itself in the relatives of the deceased. The sense of loss is palpable, however a new energy is emerging and presents itself through the dance moves of one of the family members. He moves to "Soak It Up"'s garage beat while Kojey talks movingly about the emotional turmoil of losing a loved one.
Speaking to The FADER via email, Cole said: “'Soak it Up' is a track about loss, turmoil, and ultimately acceptance in a relationship of another's flaws. The song started life as an instrumental that grew from me improvising at the piano. I then incorporated some home-made samples and let Kojey work his magic on top. The visuals represent beautifully the sense of loss that Kojey so poetically describes."
