Report: Dr. Dre loses trademark dispute with gynaecologist named Dr. Drai
The rapper’s case was dismissed by the U.S. Trademark Office.
Dr. Dre has lost a long-running trademark dispute against a gynaecologist named Dr. Drai, BBC News reports.
Dre has been fighting the case since 2015, arguing that Pennsylvania-based gynaecologist Draion M Burch's bid to trademark the name could cause "confusion" between their work.
However, in a ruling reportedly made last week, the U.S. Trademark Office dismissed the case from the music mogul. It is reported that Dre failed to show that people would be misled into buying by Dr. Drai's products.
Burch, author of books such as 20 Things You May Not Know About A Vagina, also argued that confusion is unlikely to occur "because Dr Dre is not a medical doctor nor is he qualified to provide any type of medical services or sell products specifically in the medical or healthcare industry." The gynaecologist further suggested that he was not keen on being assosciated with Dre, citing violent lyrics from his past hits as evidence.
The FADER has reached out to Dr. Dre for comment.
Last month Dr. Dre appeared on stage with Eminem during the Detroit rapper's Coachella headline set. He also teased the fact that he is working on new solo music.
