Bali Baby has a badass night on the town in “Backseat”

“If Disney Channel let Avril Lavigne have her own series in 2001.”

April 19, 2018

About a year ago, Bali Baby released “Banana Clip,” a tough lullaby about being real as hell and taking no new friends. Since then, the self-proclaimed “pop-rock” rising star from Atlanta via North Carolina has gone on to perfect her jabbingly cute singing and rapping over singles like “Enemies,” and a handful of tapes including March’s Bali Blanco.

Today, the 20-year-old artist is sharing the video for her recently released single “Backseat.” The track is more rock-inspired than some of her previous work, swirling pop-punk-y chords, gentle screeches, and a spin-til-you’re-dizzy dance beat to create the ultimate pump-up song to belt with your girls before a big night out. The video captures this energy perfectly — Bali alternately zooms through New York City on a motorcycle and thrashes around with friends, reinforcing her stylish reputation with a super sleek, all-black matrix-esque fit and a shimmering coat adorned with angel wings.

"I shot this video in the freezing cold weather for 12 hours straight and I'll probably have frostbite in my fingers forever, but it is the hottest video out right now so it was totally worth it,” she says. “[It’s] definitely if Disney Channel let Avril Lavigne have her own series in 2001. I hope all my real rock stars enjoy!" Watch the video above, and keep an eye out for her debut album Baylor Swift, out May 8.
