Diana Ross’s Twitter is the most inspirational corner of the internet
On Twitter as in life, Ms. Ross is the Boss.
On a recent Saturday, Diana Ross was shopping at Marshall’s department store when she misplaced her fanny pack. What’s a diva to do? Fortunately, she didn't have to worry for too long — a thoughtful fellow shopper handed it in to a store employee. Ms. Ross turned to Twitter to express her gratitude: “Thank U to the Angell I lost my fanny pack in Marshall’s in LA on Olympic & someone turned it in,What a blessing.”
The soul legend has been “loving” Twitter since joining two and a half years ago, and her feed has become an entertaining and revealing insight into her day-to-day life. Frequently, Ms. Ross uses the site to share memories of her iconic career: a Super Bowl halftime performance here (caption: “FUN”), and a Mahogany lyric there. But more often, she posts uplifting messages to empower her followers, and reminders to take stock and be grateful for what we have.
Sometimes, it’s not clear whether she’s being tongue in cheek — the Cher-esque grammatical slips; a 2016 tweet which read, “So many blessings.m4a” — or just playfully off-the-cuff. But at a time when many celebrity tweets feel like they’ve been cooked up in a marketing boardroom, her unstudied approach feels entirely sincere. The world may be upside down, but Ms. Ross stays right on the mark.
