CHAE BUTTUH’s “Everything Did” video is a tribute to fly femmes everywhere

“Whether it be escorting, stripping, or sugar babying, the women who have mastered the art of finessing the oppressor, men, out of their savings in order to live are the magnificent ones.”

"Hair did, nails did, everything did / I'm magnificent / These bitches ain't got nothing on me," says North Carolina rapper CHAE BUTTUH on the woozy, minimal "Everything Did." The video for it — dropping today on Mister Wallace and aCeb00mbaP's FUTUREHOOD label as part of their FUTUREHOOD Fridays series — is a nod to early Hype Williams videos, Lil Kim photoshoots, and late '90s and early '00s nightlife fashion.

"'Everything Did' was written for the fly girls of the night and day, who survive having marginalized jobs like sex work and still manage to have their hair did, nails did, everything did," said CHAE over email. "Whether it be escorting, stripping, or sugar babying, the women who have mastered the art of finessing the oppressor, men, out of their savings in order to live are the magnificent ones."
