Calvin Harris criticizes British PM Theresa May over use of Rihanna collab “This Is What You Came For”
Florence + The Machine has also spoken out after the 2017 Conservative Party Conference.
Theresa May delivered a calamity-strewn keynote speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester, England on Wednesday. As if things couldn't get worse for the British Prime Minister and her party, both Calvin Harris and Florence Welch were critical of their music being used during the event.
May walked onto the stage to Calvin Harris's 2016 single "This Is What You Came For," which features Rihanna. Writing on Twitter, Harris made it clear that he had not approved this and that he does "not support nor condone happy songs being played at such a sad event." He added some health advice for May, who struggled with a cough on stage, suggesting she gets her liver cleansed.
Similarly, tweets sent from Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine's account sought to distance the band from the Conservative Party and their use of "You've Got The Love" at the same conference.
Representatives for the Conservative Party were not immediately available for comment.
