Maggie Rogers Shares Her Parting Gift “Split Stones”
The singers says she’s taking a break in a handwritten letter.
On Tuesday Maggie Rogers shared a handwritten letter on Instagram and released her new song “Split Stones,” a song she referred to in the letter as a "parting gift." In the letter, the singer thanks her fans for the past year where she “danced harder” and “sang louder” as she toured the world following the release of her Now That The Light Is Fading EP.
The singer shot up to stardom after getting a co-sign by Pharrell at NYU for her song “Alaska.”
"My EP told you everything I felt during my last semester of college," Rogers wrote. "It's time for me to tell you the story of everything that's happened since.” This might imply that she’s taking a short break from touring to refocus on writing new material about her life after college.
Her new song “Split Stones” might be her last for a while, and it’s a good one. The dance-y, pop song takes samples from outdoor excursions and is inspired by nature in the same way “Alaska” was. Rogers says she wrote the song in college and has played it live during her shows on tour, so it’s only fitting that she shares the track before moving on to a new chapter in her life.
"'Split Stones' is a parting gift," she wrote. “This is me saying goodbye for a little while. Here's to the end of the beginning and the start of everything else."
