Clara Amfo has quit her position as part of L'Oréal's True Match campaign. The U.K. DJ and broadcaster has confirmed that she made the decision in support of fellow spokesmodel Munroe Bergdorf who was fired by the cosmetics brand last week.

Trans DJ and model Bergdorf was removed from the campaign after airing her views on racism in a now deleted Facebook post. L’Oréal said her comments were “at odds” with their brand values. Amfo is the first model from the diversity-based campaign to show her support for Bergdorf.

In a statement provided to MIC, Amfo said: “I can confirm that I have requested to be removed from all L’Oréal campaign artwork at the same time as Munroe.”

Amfo also posted about the fallout from Bergdorf's removal on social media in the past few days. “Not even a week ago I was proud to announce that I was to be in the same campaign as Munroe. A trans woman of colour who L'Oréal make-up hired to sell make up because of who she is," she wrote in a September 2 Instagram post, when she first suggested she had chosen to part ways with the brand. “Who she is, a woman who wrote a nuanced post on institutional racism and white supremacy in relation to Charlottesville and how the foundations of those heinous ideals trickle in to every facet of our society. A newspaper took her post out of context and span it as 'a rant' with the most basic of dog whistle politics to rally people against her. If she's not ‘worth it’ anymore, I guess I'm not either.”

In a September 6 tweet Amfo used the #IStandWithMunroe hashtag supporters are using to show their support for Bergdorf.

Amfo has spoken out against injustice in the past. In January she called out the cultural appropriation practices of a London-based hair braiding salon. She subsequently received an apology from the business in question.

The FADER has reached out to Amfo for further comment.
