Watch “Home Is Where The Haunt Is,” American Football’s Kind Of Depressing New Video
The midwestern emo legends debut a clip for a song from their 2016 comeback album.
Seventeen years after their mostly hook-less first full-length soundtracked one million sad late-night car rides through suburbia, American Football made another album. It is also called American Football and it also features warmly blurred guitar twinkles and delicately strained singing. But the songs are bigger-sounding, and more structured, as evidenced by album cut "Home Is Where The Haunt Is." Today, the band is debuting a very pretty new video for that 2016 track. The clip explores how things and feelings fade over time. In other words: it's a little bit depressing.
"One aspect of 'Home Is Where the Haunt Is,' that really struck me is how it explores our complex relationships with the past, the ways in which our younger selves evolve along with us, becoming engrained in who we are," wrote Erin Elders, the clip's director, in an email to The FADER. "The video follows three sets of characters whose youthful passions have dulled over time, becoming just a shade of the person. My hope is to explore both the heartbreak and beauty of watching the reality of our dreams unfolding." Watch above, and check out some new tour dates below, too.
