Watch London Producer SONIKKU Put A Colorful And Cheeky Twist On The Olympics

Competition has never looked so entertaining.

June 14, 2017

London-based DJ, Tony Donson, otherwise known as SONIKKU, makes house music that brings back joyful memories of leveling up on a video game. He uses 16-bit sound chips to create Sonic the Hedgehog-like effects, combined with ‘80s dance flavors, producing vibrant, percussion-filled music that makes you want to run to the dancefloor.

Today, June 14, the U.K. DJ releases his debut visual, “Sky Sanctuary,” from his recent EP of the same name. Taking inspiration from the styles and aesthetics of Olympic fashion, the video is tongue-in-cheek in approach, presenting a competition between contestants who twirl ribbons, play with bejewelled flip phones, and cut up clothes to give their looks extra panache.

“The video was directed by set designer and film-maker Aidan Zamiri who has worked with Rahel (the star of the video) on my press photos in the past,” SONIKKU told The FADER via email. “The rest of the cast are friends of ours. The concept came from me and Aidan looking through photos of '80's Olympic fashions and decided this aesthetic would fit perfectly with my image and style.” Watch the video exclusively above.
