Stream Rich Homie Quan’s New Mixtape “Back To The Basics”
The former Rich Gang affiliate returns after an 18-month hiatus.
Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan has returned with his first project since 2015, Back to the Basics, out today on Motown Records. Technically a mixtape, the 11-track project features previously released single "Replay," and finds Quan returning to his signature bubbling, wail-inflected flows. It has just one feature, from previous collaborator Cyko.
Things have been relatively quiet for Quan since his 2015 hits "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" and "Ride Out," from the Furious 7 soundtrack, but 2017 may be shaping up to be a banner year for him, with his debut full length due this summer, according to Motown.
Reflecting on the project's money-oriented themes in a press release, Quan said "I grew up with nothing, so every dollar had value. I don't want to be broke. Never again. That's why I try to put those things in my songs because when I hear them and I'm saying, 'Boy, you can't go broke,' I've got to live up to that. In my songs, I try to make goals for myself and live up to them."
Accompanied by a 28-minute film which includes narration from Quan and official videos for six of the project's songs, the mixtape is available on all streaming services. Listen below.
