James Deen Is A Kid In A Candy Store On New Track “Grin”
The Vancouver producer connects with Jersey singer Ehiorobo for the first single from his forthcoming album.
Vancouver is a hub of emerging dance music talent, and it's from this laidback scene that producer James Deen emerged in 2015. For his new track, "Grin," featuring a velvet-voiced New Jersey singer named Ehiorobo, Deen dives deep into the melody-driven sound coming out of his city and surfaces with a candy-tweaked, uptempo pop song. "Grin" is the first single from Deen's new record, Never Been Cool, out April 13.
"Grin started about a year and a half ago while I was laying on the floor in my bedroom, with my laptop," Deen told The FADER over email. "Within days of its creation I was introduced to Ehi and he immediately was interested in doing the vocals. I originally planned to have it just be an instrumental, but I'm guessing some greater power in the universe made sure Ehi sang on it. The song is important to me in many ways, simply even as an audible form of my progression, and a true learning experience of sharing creativity with others."
