Glastonbury Founder Says The Festival Will Change Its Name To The Variety Bazaar For 2019
Update: Emily Eavis has tweeted to clarify her father’s comments.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has said that the festival will operate under a different name for one year in 2019. The annual festival traditionally takes place on Worthy Farm in Pilton, England. However, this will change in 2019 when the festival moves to a temporary new location. With the new location will come a new name, ‘The Glastonbury Festival team presents The Variety Bazaar.’
"That’s a good name don’t you think?” Eavis told Glastonbury FM (via FACT) in an interview this week. “I’ve been a risk taker all my life. In 47 years of taking risks, so far, touch wood, I haven’t come unstuck. This might be one risk too far, I don’t know.”
Talking about the change in location, Eavis added: “It’s half way to the Midlands from here and there’s only one landowner. I’ve got 22 landowners where I am now. I just wonder whether the next generation will want to negotiate with so many people. It’s a very difficult job to hold it together.”
Glastonbury 2017 will take place as usual before taking a year off in 2018. Radiohead is currently the only headliner that has been announced to the public.
