SoundCloud Will Still Take Down Copyrighted Material “At The Request Of Creators”
“We respect all creators, and therefore we respect the rights of all creators who request to have their content removed.”
Earlier this week, SoundCloud co-founder and CTO Eric Wahlforss announced that, due to licensing agreements reached with key companies, the streaming service would no longer be removing DJ mixes with copyrighted material. But the new policy isn't as all-encompassing as initially reported. In a blog post on Wednesday, the company explained that while removals of DJ mixes has significantly decreased, copyrighted material will still be removed "at the request of creators.”
"It's important to note takedowns are at the request of creators," the post reads. "While the agreements we have in place across the industry have greatly lessened the likelihood of takedowns, as a creator driven platform, we respect all creators, and therefore we respect the rights of all creators who request to have their content removed."
