Hamilton Cast Delivers Powerful Plea To Mike Pence, Trump Views Speech As “Harassment”
“We hope this show has inspired you to work on behalf of ALL of us.”
Last night, Mike Pence was spotted among the audience at Hamilton in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. Upon his arrival, the Vice President-elect was immediately greeted by boos from the audience. However, the cast of Hamilton took their chance after curtain-call to assure Pence that he was welcome at the theater. Actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays the role of Aaron Burr, urged Pence to "hear [them] out."
“Vice President-elect, I see you walking out but we have a message for you sir,” Dixon plead. “We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us." Watch above.
Afterwards, Hamilton writer Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter to express his support for the cast members and emphasize that "all are welcome at the theater." However, President-elect Donald Trump furiously insisted that Pence was "harassed last night by the cast of Hamilton," and demanded an apology. Dixon responded directly to Trump, assuring him that "conversation is not harassment" before thanking Mike Pence for "listening." View the tweets below.
