Fake Palms’s Sweet New Video Will Give You A Toothache
“Holiday” is a nightmare for candy lovers everywhere.
Toronto's Fake Palms is back with new visuals for "Holiday", the latest single from an upcoming EP Heavy Paranoia. The hazy alt-pop song is all about perception: “It’s about how you can build a complete narrative of something in your mind only to realize you're completely wrong and the opposite is true,” said frontperson Michael le Riche, in an email to The FADER.
The video for "Holiday," premiering today, starts off in a saccharine candyland but quickly falls into chaos when things get repulsive. Ice cream dripping out of mouths, Sour Patch Kids melting into a bubbling mess, and a chubby bunny challenge gone wrong remind the viewer of the duality between the beautiful and the disgusting. "We wanted to highlight the interesting details that can be found among the decay of a beautiful thing," said video director Allison Johnston, "like what happens when you take a blowtorch to cotton candy."
