DIANA Wants You To Know That They’re Not Sorry On “Confession”
It’s another track from the Toronto band’s forthcoming album, Familiar Touch.
Toronto synthpop band DIANA is back with “Confession,” the second single from a new album, Familiar Touch, that's out November 18. "Confession" disguises its lyrical hostility with upbeat synth bass and slick guitar. Syncopated Depeche Mode-style drum beats invite you into the song but vocalist Carmen Elle’s sharp lyrics quickly become cold: I just want you to know that there’s nothing for you without my love, she sings. It’s a confession of how a person consumes an ex-lover to build themselves up, with no remorse.
In an email to The FADER the group said, “‘Confession' is almost a mash up of what we've been into recently. "The drums off the top are from the emu E4x sampler and sound almost Depeche Mode-esque, and then there's the Linn Drum, really funky synth bass and a whole other layer of ambience on top. The rhythm track is inspired by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, maybe something like what it would sound like if they worked with Annie Lennox, and then there's a guitar part that comes in in the second verse that has a really distinct tone, which is the result of the fact that Carmen played it with a toonie (a Canadian $2 coin for those who don't know)."
