Popcaan Responds To Mr. Vegas Over Drake Criticisms
“Me nuh need you fi defend Popcaan.”
Last week, OG of the dance Mr. Vegas called into Hot 97 to discuss international artists, namely Drake, using dancehall and Jamaican influences in their music. "If you are going to come to this culture… put [dancehall artists] on properly and give them an opportunity to create a name for themselves outside of their base market," Vegas told Hot 97.
In a video posted today by DJ Akademiks, Popcaan responded to Mr. Vegas, saying "Don't violate my brother. You don't know anything about OVO/Unruly." Though Popcaan is credited on Drake's VIEWS for a sample of "Love Yuh Bad", many were disappointed that his original contributions to "Controlla" were removed from the album version of the song.
Representatives for Popcaan and Mr. Vegas were not immediately available for comment.
