Rinse FM Cancels Azealia Banks’ Headline Slot At Born & Bred Festival In East London
Following a series of offensive remarks made by the rapper on Twitter.
Azealia Banks has been dropped from the lineup of Rinse FM's inaugural Born & Bred festival in east London this June. The rapper was due to perform as co-headliner with grime MC Novelist on Sunday June 5. In a brief statement posted on Instagram, Rinse FM said the following:
The news follows offensive remarks made on Banks' Twitter last night (May 10) and today (May 11).
In the last 24 hours, the rapper has tweeted offensive comments to numerous U.K. artists including Zayn Malik and MNEK. Following several disparaging comments about U.K. rap, British followers questioned the fact that Banks was due to appear in London in less than a month. In response, Banks tweeted that she would bring armed security with her to her festival slot.
This prompted U.K. artists to begin calling for Rinse FM to cancel Banks' appearance:
