Cadenza Brings The U.K. And Jamaica Together On New Single “No Drama”

Featuring Avelino and Assassin.

April 28, 2016

With the help of U.K. rapper Avelino and Jamaican artist Assassin, Cadenza goes in hard on his new single "No Drama." The London-based producer provides a dramatic, bass-heavy beat that amps both lyricists to go toe-to-toe on the track. With the Jamaican twist, it's bound to be a certified club banger.

"'No Drama' came together bit by bit over a few months," Cadenza told The FADER via email. "Avelino came to my studio for the first time and I played him some ideas and he lit up when I played the first 10 seconds of that demo. He writes straight from his head, so I watched him mutter to himself for bit and then he came straight in with I don’t want no drama. That whole first verse is the one thats on the record, no re-dos, no overdubs. Being half-British and half-Jamaican, I wanted to find a way to fuse that mix in what I do, and that's why I had to bring Assasin in. His tone is exceptional and he brought a whole other energy to the record. When I showed AV what Assasin had done, he freaked out, and it brought out his competitive side. Even though they were never in the same room, it's like they were going head to head trying to one up each other."

"The song is quite important; because it’s just me letting myself know that I’m able to collaborate with different forces," Avelino added. "As much as Cazenda and Assassin have now become my colleagues, I’m fans of theirs—so it's nice to be working together."
