Robyn’s Technology Festival For Young Women Returns In 2016
The event will take place April 9.
Robyn describes the Tekla festival, a collaboration with Stockholm's KTH Royal Institute of Technology, as "a little bubble, a safe environment where girls can try things that they probably didn't know that they were interested in." "Boys see other men with technology all the time," she adds. "It's not hard for them to visualize themselves doing it. Girls just don't see it anywhere. We don't have that in our daily lives."
The festival debuted last year as a one-off event. "We're doing it again because not much has changed after a year," Robyn explains. "It's a very long process to get girls comfortable in this environment... It's about a fantasy, but it's going to be come reality sooner or later, it's just about making it happen faster." This April, 400 young women will participate in the second edition of Tekla, doubling last year's total.
