River Tiber And Daniel Caesar Go “West”
The song is from River Tiber’s first full-length album, out this spring.
Over the past year and a half, singer-producer River Tiber (Tommy Paxton-Beesley) has built a name for himself with a series of quietly elegant tracks, culminating in September's When The Time Is Right EP. His ongoing collaboration with superproducer Frank Dukes results in more magic on "West," which features rising Toronto soul singer Daniel Caesar.
"West" premiered this afternoon on Zane Lowe's show on Beats 1 Radio, and it's the first track from River Tiber's currently-untitled debut album, due this spring. Tiber and Caesar are the perfect team. Listen as a swirl of stacked vocals builds beneath Tiber's mumbly melodies and Caesar's clean phrasing, situating the song in a strangely familiar place that's somewhere between psychedelic and gospel.
"It’s a blessing to be able to make music with Frank Dukes and Daniel Caesar," River Tiber told The FADER in an e-mail. "This song is about leaving and trying not to look back. I pictured when I flew to California for the first time, listening to Led Zeppelin's 'Going to California.' There’s something magnetic about the west coast, especially when you’re from a cold city like Toronto.”
