Nicki Minaj Reading Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” Is Absolute Perfection
Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom?
Nicki Minaj was part of last night's A&E's TV special, Shining A Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America, which helped raise money for United Way Worldwide. She read the late Maya Angelou’s "Still I Rise," which could not possibly be more appropriate.
Angelou's words, especially Does my haughtiness offend you? / Don’t you take it awful hard / ‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines / Diggin’ in my own backyard, seem written especially for Minaj. Needless to say, the reading is extremely powerful.
