Grimes Has A Taste For Blood With “SCREAM,” Feat. Aristophanes
Art Angels arrives November 6.
Grimes’ twofold artistic manifesto is becoming ever more pronounced as we approach the release of Art Angels. For the album’s first release, she foregrounded Grimes as a master of mise-en-scène, channelling a Marie Antoinette via Matthew Barney heroine in the hyper-saturated "Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream” video. With the album’s second track “SCREAM" featuring Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes, she emphasises Grimes the engineer. It’s an aggressive cacophony of crunching industrial beats, bloodthirsty panting and a stabbing guitar riff. But the artist described it best herself on Instagram, as below:
"It's my first 'producer track', Aristophanes is the lead vocalist. She's an incredible mc from Taiwan and u must listen to her music because it's definitely the new shit. 😲😲😲💀💀💀💀🔪🔪🔪🔪 grimes does the screaming and produced the beats 🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝. Art angels is out nov 6 eeeekkkaaaachsaachaaa 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I would highly recommend listening to this on a good system aka not laptop speakers, the bass was exhausting to perfect."
