FADER Mix: DJ Diamond Kuts
The Philly DJ spins core-quaking club that doesn’t let up.
When we spoke to Philly's DJ Diamond Kuts for Beat Construction, she gave us her take on the frantic club music she's made a career of spinning on the air and around the globe. "Philly, we come in hard. We're gonna give you a hard club feel. You're gonna feel that pain, you're gonna feel the energy." Today, she dropped a thirty-minute mix exclusively for FADER that's just as loud and hard, dragging in and speeding up major hits from Migos and Dej Loaf and ephemeral viral tracks like "That's My Best Friend." She's also got the best DJ drop in the history of music from Barack Obama, and delivered the tracklist below in all caps, which we thought was very fitting. In the words of thousands of kids on Vine today dancing to this insane club remix: LET'S GOOOOOOO.
Where are you right now? Please describe your surroundings.
Right now I'm in front of a mixer between two turntables. In a little room in Philly.
What'd you open and close this mix with and why?
I opened and closed with DJ Taj remixes. He is my favorite club producer right now.
DJing on the radio versus at a party is kind of like acting on TV versus in a play. Which do you enjoy more?
I love parties! You can see instant crowd reaction instead of guessing whether or not your audience is really rocking with you.
What's the last book you read that had an impact on you?
The last book I read was Oh, The Places You'll Go, a Dr. Seuss book I was reading my son. As I was reading it to him, I realized how real the book was. It's the life of a everyday hustler, haha.
What's your favorite dish to cook, and how do you make it?
Lasagna! I can't tell you my secrets lol.
