Sicko Mobb Talk The State Of Bop Ahead Of Their MoMA PS1 Warm Up Set

Catch the Chicago duo in Queens this weekend.

July 23, 2015

Chicago's Sicko Mobb hit PS1's Warm Up concert series in Queens this weekend on an insanely stacked bill alongside Skepta, Tory Lanez, Baauer, and more. The duo are bringing twinkling beats and frantic limbs with them as arbiters of Chicago's deep dance scene. We caught up with the duo ahead of the show to chat about bop, new music, and how they storm the stage.

How do you guys put together your live show?

Our live show is put together based on the crowd. The crowds we have performed in front of really like for us to begin our show with and carry throughout the set. So, we put the high energy in the right place to create a consistent flow from the beginning to end.

How was it working on music with Jeremih?

The collaboration with Jeremih was dope. He is a homeboy from Chicago who has been putting out great records since his first single. We appreciated him for coming and working with us.

Chicago music has broadened widely since drill first broke. What are the next steps for the Bop style?

The next for the Bop style is to become known throughout the world. Bop is not just about a dance: it is culture. We are living in a city where we see our friends getting killed, and believe that this style places us, and our city, in a different light. That's our goal behind the style.

Does bop dancing have a presence beyond Chicago?

Yes, Bop dancing has presence beyond Chicago. We see people from all of the world on the Internet bopping. The dancers we meet on the road are typically in the crowd.

What's the best and worst part of recording and collaborating as a duo?

The best part of recording as duo is that we have the chance to share our creative thoughts and ideas to make good music. The fact that we are doing something that we have a passion to do as a career—there's no worst. We are blessed to have this opportunity.
