Courtney Barnett Charmed The Lower East Side With Her Pop-Up Art Exhibition
The Aussie singer-songwriter debuted her photography series for one night only.
On a hot and sticky night in NYC, Courtney Barnett, the Australian rocker with an eye for finding poetry in everyday life, showed another side to herself with an exhibit of her photographs and drawings at Ludlow Studios. Barnett's label Mom + Pop Music and online art gallery Sugarlift presented the charming and tongue-in-cheek pieces by the singer-songwriter, who released her critically acclaimed debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit this March. The works included photos from her 2015 tour, pictures of shower heads above postcards with handwritten lyrics from Barnett's songs, as well as whimsical drawings of all sorts of chairs (an office chair, a bar stool, a chair that needs a new cushion, among others). Plus, indie gals Torres and Speedy Ortiz's DJ SAD13 (aka the band's lead singer Sadie Dupuis) were there spinning tunes on their laptops, and we all got fortune cookies with Barnett's snappy lyrics inside. Overall, a good time, as you can see from the pics below.
