Chicago Stands Together On Saba’s “Temporary,” Featuring Tink
Down on my luck but ‘t's not the end of life.
As the the tangled web of friends and creative conspirators that is the liner notes for Surf makes evident, where Chicago's rap scene lacks in formal industry support it has doubled-down with collaborative energy. To wit, SOX-affiliated rapper Saba recruited Tink to help out on his first official release of 2015, "Temporary."
In addition to carrying the hook, Saba told The FADER that Tink helped him hone in on his message of perseverance. "I make a lot of my songs as reminders to myself," he said. "I came to Tink knowing what I wanted to say, but not exactly how I wanted to say it. I know the concept of time comes up a lot in my music. The song 'Temporary' was really just a note to myself that all suffering is temporary." Down on my luck but it's not the end of life.
Saba will be performing alongside fellow Chicago artists Hurt Everybody, NoName Gypsy, and XVRHLDY at SOBs in New York next Thursday, July 23; get your tickets here.
