Alec Lomami’s “Trouble Anxieux” Is A Nomad’s Guide To Self-Liberation
The Congolese rapper premieres the first single from his upcoming EP, Quelques Mots Suffisent.
Rapper Alec Lomami, who you may remember as one third of the production trio The Black Hearts Club, is a nomad, virtually and musically. He grew up between Belgium, DRC Congo and America, and his sound draws on a similarly diverse set of sources. On “Trouble Anxieux,” featuring Kenyan singer Karun Mungai and North Carolina singer Soni Base, he shares his story of overcoming the anguish and fear brought on by his experiences growing up: “I was in a pretty dark place of existential crisis when I wrote the song,” Lomami told The FADER. “The song is a part of my own catharsis and exorcism of personal demons.”
The slow stammering beat constructed by London-via-Lagos producer Olugbenga, features subtle electronic elements that flutter in between the melodic bass and provide a hopeful counterpoint to the song's troubled themes. The new single is the first song off his forthcoming EP, Quelques Mots Suffisent, which is due out June 30th via Immaculate Taste.
