Cub Sport’s lead singer, Tim Nelson, is one of the most expressive dancers in pop today. In the Australian quartet’s new video, “Good Guys Go,” the blond artist is bare chested and decked out in a glamorous fur coat. He winds his body to the ground, bounces on the balls of his feet, and doubles over in agony, as if nursing a physical wound. It adds a whole new dimension to the song's organ-led vulnerability, in which he laments getting treated carelessly by a lover. Nelson sings, sadly: “You know I’m breaking my back, to try and keep you coming back to me.”
Over email, Tim told The FADER: “I wrote ‘Good Guys Go’ about an imbalanced relationship where emotional labor was going unrecognised. I saw the toll this cycle took, where one person was continually working so much harder than the other to keep the relationship afloat. I hope this song offers some sort of comfort to people who have felt the same."
