Diddy wants to buy the Carolina Panthers, and says he’ll immediately hire Colin Kaepernick

“Let’s make history.”

December 18, 2017

Diddy, the highest-earner in music for 2017, has indicated his interest in purchasing the NFL's Carolina Panthers. The New York Times reports Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is selling the franchise following an investigation into alleged workplace sexual misconduct and, in one accusation, using a racial slur. In a statement, Richardson said the sales process would commence after the season.

Responding to the news on Sunday, December 17, Diddy tweeted: “I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word. Retweet!” He later posted a video on Instagram where he repeated his plan and said he promises to be “the best NFL owner that you can imagine.”

Should Diddy be successful with his plan, he will look to right one of the biggest wrongs in sport right now, and ensure Colin Kaepernick can play football again. Kaepernick, who has been a free agent since leaving the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year, would be the first player to join the new Panthers according to Diddy.

In September, Diddy sent a response to NFL players after Donald Trump attacked player protests on Twitter, offering a message of support and urging players to unite. A month later he stated his desire to purchase the entire NFL.
