On CBS’ show “The Talk,” Michelle Williams shared her personal struggle with depression and mental health. The singer and former Destiny’s Child member told the hosts that she’s struggled with depression since she was 13. “I didn’t know until I was in my thirties what was going on. I just thought it was growing pains,” Williams said.

Even with the success of Destiny's Child, Williams struggled after trying to talk to her manager at the time, Mathew Knowles. “For years, I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time suffering with depression," Williams said. “It got really really bad…to the point of I was suicidal.”

Williams hopes that by opening up about her experience that she can normalize discussions surrounding mental health. “I just kind of want to normalize this conversation just as much as we normalize ‘girl is my butt too small? I wanna make it bigger,’” she said.
