Kanye West has responded to a countersuit from insurance company Lloyd's of London regarding the cancellation of his Saint Pablo tour. The rapper initially filed a lawsuit in August, claiming that he was owed $10 million in insurance money for the cancelled dates. Lloyd's of London filed a countersuit weeks later, denying West's insurance claim and stating that the tour cancellation was for reasons “not beyond [his] control.”
In new documents obtained by Pitchfork, West's legal team denies these claims and suggests that “The Counterclaim should be withdrawn or stricken.” In their countersuit, the insurance company stated that claims surrounding the cancellation could be denied based on drug and alcohol use, as well as pre-existing medical conditions.
In their response, West's lawyers state that Lloyd's employees, "suggested that they may deny coverage of the claim on the unsupportable contention that use of marijuana by Kanye caused the medical condition.”
A representative for Kanye West was not immediately available for comment.
