The story of Lil Wayne's unreleased Tha Carter V is a long and complicated affair. It's the focus of ongoing financial and legal disputes between Wayne and Cash Money boss Birdman, while disgraced 'Pharma-bro' Martin Shkreli claims to have a copy of an album that otherwise appears to be in release limbo.

However, in April Wayne told fans the album was "coming soon" and, while confirmed details remain unavailable, the rapper was again hopeful about the project in a new interview with Q93’s Wild Wayne. “Carter V is done,” he said. “Carter V on the shelf just ready to drop. I move on and keep it moving and give them what I’m doing right now. But Carter V is ready to be listened to."

“Of course you’re going to see Tha Carter V,” Wayne said when asked if fans will get to hear the album. “Man, I just don’t want to put it out the wrong way. Honestly, man, I can do what I want honestly at any time. The fans deserve it to be right and that’s how it’s gonna be. I’mma make sure it’s right. I can drop whatever I want to drop. I keep dropping whatever I want to drop. But I’m not gonna give ’em Carter V the wrong way.”

Lil Wayne was appearing on Q93 to promote this year's Lil Weezyana festival, which takes place on August 25. Earlier this year saw the long-awaited release of another Lil Wayne project, the T-Pain collaboration T-Wayne.
