Vessels And The Flaming Lips Get Extremely Weird In Their Collaborative New Video

The British band team up with the Flaming Lips frontman on “Deflect The Light.”

Vessels are a five-piece band from Leeds, north England, who make sprawling electronic rock. Their fourth album The Great Distraction is due later this year, and leans further into their techno influences than ever before, while also featuring the likes of Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne on the shimmering "Deflect The Light." In the video premiering above, you can see Coyne's evocative storytelling and the band's mesmerising synths captured in bold 3D animation.

"It is always brave of any young artist to ask The Flaming Lips to collaborate with them," Coyne wrote to The FADER in an email. "Usually we just take over the whole song. But Vessels has magnificently kept us at bay, and they've created a swirling hypnotic vibe for our little story to live in!"

Vessels, writing collectively via email, added: "The video seemed to suggest itself, as the story was already all there, fully formed by Wayne's incredible lyrics. He's created a totally bizarre world within the song, and the video is a pretty vivid continuation of that — it looks exactly how the story did already in our minds."

Different Recordings will release The Great Distraction on September 29; pre-order it here.
