Kojey Radical Wants His New Video To Empower Young POC Who Feel Like Outsiders

The experimental U.K. rapper takes on gentrification on “AFTER WINTER.”

On his heated new song "AFTER WINTER," London rapper and spoken word artist Kojey Radical demands that you cut him his check. With heartfelt lyrics about his culture and appearance, the track rolls menacingly forward, as the video (produced by JFC Worldwide) shows Kojey and accomplices invading a posh inner-city apartment — one which could be any number of the thousands of new-builds constantly appearing throughout London.

"To me, 'AFTER WINTER' is a snapshot of the emotions of a young person of color growing up in a space where they feel like the other, and giving it a soundtrack of empowerment," Kojey explained in an email to The FADER. "I’m reminded of how special 'AFTER WINTER' is each and every time I hear it, and I’m reminded of how important it is to speak out and speak proudly about who I am." Watch the video above, and look out for Kojey's next full-length project IN GODS BODY, set for release in September.
