“We’re here for the degenerate generation.”

July 20, 2017

SoundCloud has released the first episode in its mini-documentary series, SoundCloud Next Wave, on local scenes who have blown up thanks to the streaming platform. The series is co-curated by the FADER, and will explore creative communities in six different cities. First up is Degenerate Generation, which follows underground rappers Pouya, Fat Nick, and Lil Tracy.

The self-proclaimed misfits roll through L.A. suburbs and tuck into chicken wings as they talk about why the city is at the heart of a new goth rap scene. "They're open-minded here, moreso than other cities," explains Pouya. "There's all types of rappers and musicians here, and everyone's just trying to get it."

Watch the five-minute episode above, and follow SoundCloud's YouTube page for a new episode each month in 2017. In addition to the documentary, you can dive further into the internet-driven L.A. rap scene with this podcast from Ham on Everything Radio.
